Mutant mice are born at the expected Mendelian rate, appear grossly normal and have apparently normal brain structure, but the pups do not feed and all die during the first day after birth. Cerebellum granule cells and hippocampus pyramidal neurons from mutants lack NMDA-induced Ca(2+)influx and membrane currents, contrary to wild-type. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:8060614}. |
