Sphingolipid delta(4)-desaturase DES1 (EC 1.14.19.17) (Degenerative spermatocyte homolog 1) (DES-1) (Dihydroceramide desaturase-1) |
DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE |
Primary spermatocytes become mature in size but degenerate without initiating meiotic chromosome condensation in their nuclei. The mutation does not affect female fertility but leads to semi-lethality both in males and females during embryonic stages (PubMed:9003299). Homozigous mutant spermatids show a misshapen Nebenkern, which varies in size and is associated with multiple nuclei (PubMed:9819060). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:9003299, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9819060}. |
