RNAi-mediated knockdown survives to adulthood, but suffer from neurodegeneration including age-dependent retinal disorganization with retinal holes and pigment cell loss (PubMed:29739804). RNAi-mediated knockdown in the neurons results in a similar phenotype (PubMed:29739804). Effects are probably due to elevated levels of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) (PubMed:29739804).
